China makes debut with Canadian flavour

June 16, 2016

COQUITLAM - China will make its debut to the world U19 FIL men's tournament with several familiar faces to Canadian lacrosse fans.

Team China's roster is filled with players that have played together before and a few newcomers. This team comes to this tournament looking to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to represent their country, as well as learn from other phenomenal players participating in this event.

Although China’s roster is full of players from around the world, a few local players will have to chance to represent the team. The players include Brock Jung (Richmond, B.C.), Mathieu Jung (Duncan, B.C.), Matthew McIlwrick (Coquitlam, B.C.), and Kim Shum(Vancouver, B.C.).

Brock Jung is a product of the Burnaby Mountain Selects program and will be playing in goal. Mathieu Jung, a close defender, comes with an extensive background in BC lacrosse as he was recently been chosen to captain the U18 team at the next National Championships. McIlwrick, a player with the Coquitlam Arandacs and also a product of Burnaby Mountain Selects, will play both Attack and Midfield and offers the team some versatility. Lastly, Shum, who plays box lacrosse for the Delta Islanders box lacrosse team, will look to add some skill to the midfield unit.

The coaching staff, led by head coach Edwin Yu, is filled with old and new coaches, all of whom have been previously affiliated with China Lacrosse in the past. This entire team is looking forward to this great event and a chance to connect with other players/coaches who share their similar passion.
